Timely Warning Crime Bulletin
MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT
This Timely Warning crime bulletin is being issued in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (Clery Act). The purpose is to provide preventative information to the campus community to aid members from becoming the victim of a similar crime. Summary of the Crime/Incident
The UC Santa Cruz Police Department has seen an increase in bike theft since the start of fall quarter. Most of the 13 thefts have been e-bikes, with a combined value of more than $23,000. The thefts have occurred across the residential campus with thieves cutting through locks.

The campus community is encouraged to follow these personal safety tips:
- Always lock your bike frame to a solid, immovable object using a heavy-duty U-lock or folding lock.
- Try to park in a visible, well-lit location on campus.
- Have a recent photo of your bike including make, model and serial number.
- Consider using a campus bike locker.
- Consider hiding a GPS tracking device on your bike to help locate it.
- Consider having an alarm or security system installed in your bike.
- Report suspicious activity, vehicles and people to the police.
- Register your bike with the Santa Cruz Police Department.
- Above all else, do not jeopardize your safety.
