Dear Slugs: Dean of Students Newsletter
Read the lastest installment of Dear Slugs, a newsletter from the Dean of Students.
Dear Slugs,
I can’t believe it’s already May and Week 7 of spring quarter! With midterms well underway and the days getting longer, there is so much happening across campus right now. The energy of the spring quarter is in full swing, and the fast pace can easily leave you feeling a bit stretched. May is also Mental Health Awareness Month, it serves as a timely reminder to prioritize your well-being amidst the busyness and all that is going on in your lives. Whenever you feel overwhelmed, I encourage you to pause, breathe, and take a moment for yourself.
As we head into the second half of the quarter, I encourage you to make the most of your time here in whatever way feels right for you. One of the best ways to do that right now is by voting in the student elections, which are officially open! Engaging in this process is a powerful way to advocate for your needs and help shape the future of our campus community. I strongly encourage you to cast your ballot now—don’t wait, as polls close on May 18 at 11:59 p.m.
This is also a season of planning and looking ahead. If you are a graduating senior, please keep a close eye on your inbox for important Commencement reminders so you are ready for your big weekend. For our continuing students planning to live off-campus next year, now is the time to solidify your housing arrangements. The Community Rentals team is also here to support you in navigating that process.
Finally, as you begin to look to the end of this quarter and academic year, you are probably thinking about how to make the best use of your summer. Whether your plans include Summer Session, a new job or internship, volunteering, or simply taking a necessary and well-deserved break to rest, I hope you are able to find a balance that rejuvenates and energizes your mind and body.
Keep leaning on one another, accessing campus resources when you need them, and finding joy in the community around you. A great way to do exactly that is by taking a well-deserved break and joining us at the upcoming Go Bananas! Carnival on Saturday, May 30 from 2 – 6 p.m. on East Field! Claim your free ticket today!
Good luck the rest of this quarter. You’ve got this!
