Open comments: UC Police Dept. policies

The University of California Office of the President invites comments on the proposed revisions to thirty-three University of California Police Department (UCPD) policies

The University of California Office of the President invites comments on the proposed revisions to thirty-three University of California Police Department (UCPD) policies (formerly the Gold Book).

The policy revisions include the following key issues:

  • A comprehensive update of the University-wide Police Policies and Administrative Procedures (Gold Book), which was last comprehensively revised in 2010.
  • The updates reflect changes in law, policing standards, best practices, and community expectations. The update also supports compliance with the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) accreditation standards, which require campus law enforcement agencies to maintain current, clearly articulated, and regularly reviewed policies.
  • Policy development was based on Lexipol standards and led by the Office of Systemwide Community Safety in consultation with UCPD, UC Legal, Systemwide Labor Relations, and subject-matter experts.

The policies are available to view online. Comments may be submitted to the Policy Coordination Office at pco@ucsc.edu through July 23, 2026.
