UC Santa Cruz celebrates Teaching Week 2026

Teaching Week is an opportunity for the entire campus to celebrate the many changes to the culture and practice of teaching and learning on our campus

The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) and the Academic Senate are delighted to present UC Santa Cruz’s 4th annual Teaching Week taking place February 23–27, 2026. This is an opportunity for the entire campus to celebrate the many changes to the culture and practice of teaching and learning on our campus and to shine a light on all of the work so many of you have put into transforming your educational practices. Here are the week’s events:

The UCSC Teaching Symposium—Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, 2:45-5:30 p.m. at Merrill Cultural Center (In-Person Only)

The TLC teaching symposium will showcase the work of instructors including graduate students, postdocs, lecturers, and senate faculty. They will share their teaching innovations through posters and short presentations.

Campus Conversations on Access: Insights from Disability StudiesWednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, 3:30–5:00 p.m. (Zoom Only)

This panel discussion, facilitated by Noriko Aso, Professor of History, will explore ways to foster a classroom culture of inclusivity across the divisions by addressing questions of accessibility, grounded in both Disabilities Studies and in classroom experience.

Panelists—Taylor Kirsch, Lecturer, Writing Program; Megan Moodie, Professor of Anthropology; Paulo Tan, Assistant Professor of Education: Disabilities & Mathematics; and Noah Wardrip-Fruin, Professor of Computational Media.

Course Reading Solutions and ChallengesThursday, Feb. 26, 2026, 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. (In-Person Only)

Hosted by the University Library, this half-day symposium is dedicated to course readings. Hear from UCSC faculty who re-envisioned the role of readings in their courses in order to improve student success and lower student course costs, followed by small group discussions on key topics including homework platforms, selecting materials, student insights on their reading experience, and what to do if students aren’t reading. Select sessions will be streamed. Lunch will be provided for in-person attendees.

Distinguished Teaching Award Lecture:  Welcoming the Unknown Together—Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, 4:30–6:30 p.m. at Merrill Cultural Center (In-Person and Live Stream)

Featuring Laurie Palmer, Professor Emerita of Art, and 2024–25 Distinguished Teaching Award recipient. She will share her insights in teaching in her talk, “Welcoming the Unknown Together.”
