Dear UC Santa Cruz Staff,
A friendly reminder that the UC Santa Cruz Staff Mentorship Program application deadline is fast approaching. The deadline to apply is December 19, 2025. If you are interested in participating in the program, either as a mentor or mentee, please read more below and click the link at the bottom to apply!
If you have any questions or concerns, email ucscsab@ucsc.edu.
UCSC Mentor Program Concept
The UCSC SAB Staff Mentorship Program is a volunteer program that pairs experienced UC Santa Cruz staff from all campus units with newer staff who are seeking to develop themselves professionally. The program provides a supportive structure in which participants can cultivate contacts, explore challenges, and enhance effectiveness as they design their personal growth and career paths.
Once pairs are set, mentors and mentees will define the shape and scope of their personal experience. Some pairs may choose more reading suggestions, for example, where others may choose to rely exclusively on dialogue.
Program Cycles
The Staff Mentorship Program cycle will run for a total of 10 months. The next program cycle will run from February through November 2026.
Who Can Participate
Mentors are experienced UC Santa Cruz employees (3+ years of experience) and well-respected advisors, coaches, and colleagues who guide and challenge, and are willing to share their experiences.
Mentees are UC Santa Cruz employees interested in career development and have relatively fewer years of service.
Eligibility requirements for 2026 program participants include:
- Career, Partial-year Career, and Contract Staff employees
- Successful completion of probation period by January 1, 2026
How the Program Works
- Mentees and mentors accepted for the program will be notified shortly after the application deadline.
- Mentees and mentors accepted for the program will be invited to an informal networking Program Kick-Off Mixer the afternoon of January 22, 2026. They will receive an email with information on the time and location of the reception.
- After the meeting, mentees and mentors will separately submit their match preferences in ranked order to the UCSC Staff Advisory Board Mentorship Committee. The committee will complete the matching process.
- Once matching is completed, pairs will be notified and the mentoring process will begin February 2026.
- Once matched, the mentor and the mentee establish mutually agreeable terms for the mentorship relationship. Mentors and mentees meet together on an established schedule for ten months.
