Dear Campus Community,

I am pleased to announce that we will soon launch a national recruitment for Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor. The CPEVC is a crucially important position on our campus, serving as our chief academic officer.

The CPEVC oversees the academic divisions, coordinates the development of academic programs in close coordination with faculty and our Academic Senate, oversees the allocation of resources to the academic enterprise, and works with the CFO and budget office to manage the allocation of campus resources in alignment with strategic priorities.

We have retained the executive search firm Witt Kieffer to conduct the recruitment, which will formally launch Oct. 27. A 13-member Search Advisory Committee made up of campus stakeholders will be chaired by Vice Chancellor for Research John MacMillan. The group will assist in the selection process, soliciting applications from nominees, reviewing applications and ultimately recommending a short list of finalists. The committee membership is posted on the CPEVC recruitment website.

Public stakeholder meetings will be held the week of Oct. 20 to gather input on campus needs and opportunities, and on the desired qualifications for the position. There will be multiple sessions specifically for faculty. Meeting specifics are also posted on the recruitment website.

The recruitment will close Jan. 8. Finalist interviews are expected to take place Feb. 9-20. Each finalist will visit campus and give both a town-hall-style talk on their vision for the Office of the Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, and an academic talk. Those participating in the search process will have the opportunity to provide feedback through a survey.

I am grateful to Paul Koch, Distinguished Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences and former Dean of Physical and Biological Sciences, who has served as interim Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor since July. He will continue to do so until our new CPEVC is selected and takes up the position.

More information on the search can be found on the CPEVC recruitment website. If you have specific questions not addressed on the site, please email Senior Human Resources Leader Lauren Morgan at llmorgan@ucsc.edu.
