Important information about your fall quarter refund
You are receiving this additional notice because, as a result of this scam, your fall quarter refund was redirected to a fraudulent bank account that was added to your record without your knowledge.
This message was sent to students impacted by this phishing scam.
This is a follow-up to the message sent to you yesterday, September 24, 2025, regarding a phishing scam that obtained your personal information. You are receiving this additional notice because, as a result of this scam, your fall quarter refund was redirected to a fraudulent bank account that was added to your record without your knowledge. We understand how stressful and overwhelming this may feel, especially if it’s impacting your finances. Please know we are here to help and support you.
What we know so far
- Your direct deposit information was changed without your knowledge, resulting in your refund being sent to another account.
- Because of this change, you did not receive the funds you were supposed to have received.
What steps we are taking on your behalf
The university is taking this matter very seriously and we are actively coordinating with financial offices, Information Technology Services, and other campus support teams to assist you.
- Investigating with financial offices
We are working with Student Business Services, Financial Aid, UC Office of the President Treasury, and banking partners to trace and reverse fraudulent transactions where possible. - Securing your accounts
We will assist you in ensuring your MyUCSC, CruzID account, and bank-linked accounts are secure.
Action required to remove the hold on your account
Reset your UCSC Gold password using CruzID Manager.

Recognizing that this situation may create sudden gaps in your budget for essentials like food, housing, or utilities, a staff member from Slug Support (https://deanofstudents.ucsc.edu/slug-support/) will be reaching out to you soon in case you need immediate support.

When you contact Slug Support, indicate that you have suffered a loss of refund funds due to this incident so they can prioritize a meeting with you.
