The Spring 2025 Campus Elections at UC Santa Cruz are underway, and students still have time to cast their votes before the election closes on Friday, May 16 at 11:59 p.m. This year’s ballot includes student leadership roles and proposed student fee measures—each offering a meaningful opportunity to shape campus priorities and support student life.

For Students

As of Tuesday, May 13 at 9 a.m., 13% of undergraduate students and 12.4% of graduate students have participated in the election. With several days remaining, there is still strong potential to increase turnout and ensure that student voices are well represented in the results.

This is especially important for student fee referenda, which require a minimum level of participation to be considered valid:

  • Undergraduate referenda must receive votes from at least 25% of currently enrolled undergraduates. Of those, 66% must vote yes for a measure to pass.
  • Graduate student referenda require a minimum 20% turnout (reduced from 25% for 2025 elections with Chancellor approval), with 66% yes votes needed for passage.

Voting is quick and easy at elections.ucsc.edu, where students can sign in using their CruzID. The site also includes a voter guide to help students make informed decisions. A QR code is available for fast access.

Students who require accommodations should contact the Dean of Students Office at deanofstudents@ucsc.edu by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

Every vote helps shape the future of UC Santa Cruz. Whether you’re interested in student leadership, campus resources, or shared governance, now is the time to take part.

For Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff play a vital role in supporting civic engagement and student leadership development. Your encouragement can help students see the value of participating in campus elections.

You can support student participation by:

  • Reminding students about election dates and the online voting process
  • Making a brief announcement in class or student-facing meetings
  • Including voting information in your communications
  • Encouraging conversations about leadership, advocacy, and student voice

We’re also sharing media assets to make it simple to include voting reminders in your outreach—whether that’s on slides, digital signage, emails, or newsletters, or even via the zoom background option!

Your partnership helps build a campus culture rooted in participation, representation, and shared governance. Thank you for being part of this important effort.Replace this text with the content of your story. Be sure to fill out the “excerpt” in the Post area on the right.
