Sail into summer – wherever you are
Over the summer, anyone can take classes at UC Santa Cruz. We welcome visitors from other University of California campuses, colleges, high schools, staff, and community members.
As students and staff look ahead to summer, enrollment is now open with hundreds of in-person and online courses.
The mission of the Summer Session office is to offer students the classes they need to graduate, whether that’s completing a General Education (GE) requirement or a course for their major. But summer is also a chance to explore something more: unique and creative classes that aren’t always available, or have room for all interested students during the fall, winter, and spring quarters.
“We know students rely on summer to complete requirements, accelerating their graduation, but we also work with departments to introduce innovative and fresh courses each year,” said Jennifer Gallacher, director of Summer Session. “This summer, we’re excited about timely classes like The Cultural Aspects of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (ANTH 130D) and Music and the Ocean (MUSC 73), a studio course designed to explore relationships between music, sound, and the ocean.”

To help make summer more accessible and affordable, eligible UCSC students can qualify for summer financial aid. California Community College students receive 50% off their per-credit tuition for summer courses, supporting their path to transfer. UCSC staff and faculty also receive a tuition discount to support their continued professional and personal development.
With most classes taught in an accelerated five weeks, students can make progress toward their degree, work, and have fun this summer.
