The UC-wide faculty and administrative Academic Planning Council (APC) work group has prepared a report exploring whether the University of California’s nine undergraduate campuses, not UC San Francisco or graduate professional programs, should return to a common academic calendar.

The report summarizes key findings on existing and potential calendar structures, a proposed alternate quarter calendar, and important factors to consider before any changes are made. It does not advocate for a specific calendar but presents multiple options for evaluation.

The APC workgroup drew upon panel discussions with individuals from UC student affairs, related campus offices, and representatives from peer institutions that have already completed or are undergoing calendar conversion, along with hundreds of responses from a questionnaire purposively directed to representatives of campus constituent groups and emails received at the UC address calendar@ucop.edu.

The council is seeking input from faculty, staff, and students. Feedback can be submitted through the Qualtrics instrument or by submitting it directly to calendar@ucop.edu. The deadline for input is May 30, 2025.
