UC Santa Cruz celebrates Teaching Week 2025 with Symposium, AI Discussion, and Distinguished Teaching Award Lecture

UC Santa Cruz will host Teaching Week 2025 from Feb. 24 to Feb. 28, celebrating innovative and equity-minded teaching practices across campus. Organized by the Teaching & Learning Center in collaboration with the Committee on Teaching, the weeklong series of events will spotlight transformative learning experiences and foster conversations on pedagogical advancements.

A highlight of the week is the UC Santa Cruz Teaching Symposium on Feb. 25, 3:15–6pm, at the Cultural Center at Merrill College, where instructors—including graduate students, lecturers, and senate faculty—will share their teaching innovations through posters and short presentations. This is an in-person event.

On Feb. 26, 5–6:45pm via Zoom, the event Experiments with AI in Teaching and Learning will feature faculty-led discussions on integrating generative AI into the classroom. Presenters will share real-world use cases, exploring both the benefits and challenges of AI in education. The session will conclude with a panel discussion on shaping AI engagement in teaching and learning.

The week will culminate with the Distinguished Teaching Award Lecture on Feb. 27, 4–6:30pm, at the Cultural Center at Merrill College, featuring Nathan Altice, Associate Teaching Professor of Computational Media and 2023–24 Distinguished Teaching Award recipient. His talk, "Teaching is Like a Third Birthday," will explore liberatory teaching practices and their transformative impact on students. This is an in-person event but will also be live-streamed.
