Slow Fashion Week is a new tradition for the Student Sustainability Advisor team in the Sustainability Office. Started last year by Student Sustainability Advisor Khalilah Hamid, Slow Fashion week encourages reducing clothing waste and taking a step back from the fast fashion industry among the student community. The goal is to raise awareness about how the fast fashion industry affects the environment and it often lacks sustainable considerations.
Slow Fashion Week will be the week of Valentines Day, February 10-14. There will be many events throughout the week that focus on reducing and reusing:
- Upcycling workshop at Slugworks Monday, 1-4 p.m.,
- Natural Dyes workshop in the Village Kitchen Tuesday, 4-6:30 p.m.,
- Jewelry Making workshop at Slugworks Wednesday, 7 - 9 p.m.
- Campus-wide Clothing Swap, Porter Squiggle, Friday 12-5 p.m.
