Information regarding responding to immigration officials in instructional and other “limited access” spaces

Dear colleagues,

A number of instructors have reached out requesting clarity regarding the status of instructional spaces when it comes to immigration enforcement. The UC Office of the President has detailed FAQs on the topic, which are updated regularly. We particularly draw your attention to question 2, which details how classrooms constitute “limited access spaces” when classes are in session, and which other campus spaces may fall into the “limited access” category.

To ensure our instructors have the relevant information handy, my office has created cards that instructors can keep in their wallet or phone that describe steps they should  take in the unlikely event that immigration officers request access to any limited access space such as a classroom when class is in session or a laboratory.

We have created two sizes of cards that instructors can print out and use, one small and one slightly larger. We have also printed cards that can be picked up from the front desk of Kerr Hall starting Friday morning, February 21, by individuals or departmental/divisional representatives.

Sincerely,
Lori
