Timely Warning Crime Bulletin

BURGLARY

This Timely Warning crime bulletin is being issued in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). The purpose is to provide preventative information to the campus community to aid members from becoming the victim of a similar crime.

Summary of the Crime/Incident

UC Santa Cruz police officers recently responded to a late-reported residential burglary on the ground floor of the H block Oakes College Apartments. The burglary occurred sometime between 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11 and 7:30 a.m. today. Police were called this afternoon. 

A female student returned to her apartment today and discovered several items of clothing missing from her locked room. The entry to the room appears to possibly be from a ground floor window.

There is no suspect description at this time.

The campus community is encouraged to follow these personal safety tips:

  • Close curtains or blinds to prevent thieves from taking inventory of your belongings.
  • Keep garage doors closed and locked, and always close and lock your windows and doors when leaving.
  • Record serial numbers to valuable items such as computers, televisions and other electronics.
  • Be aware of people walking behind residences along the fence line, and report suspicious vehicles and people to the police.
  • Do not keep large sums of money, jewelry, or valuable items in plain view in your room/apartment/home.
  • Above all else, do not jeopardize your safety.
