We invite staff and faculty from across the university to an afternoon workshop devoted to developing strategies for collaborating and aligning our efforts toward student success and educational equity:
Strengthening collaboration for student success through ecological validation
Thursday, November 7, 1-4pm, Multipurpose Room, John R. Lewis College
In order for first generation, low-income and racialized minority students to succeed we need to create new cultures on campus where collaboration and validation are the norm. However, our campus structures and silos often prevent collaboration, validating approaches and reflective practice. In this workshop, participants will explore a new model of ecological validation that provides guidance on how to provide the support necessary so that all students succeed.
Space in the workshop is limited. Please register online and we will follow up regarding availability in the workshop.
We invite all members of the UCSC community to the 6th UCSC Symposium on Assessment in Undergraduate and Graduate Education on November 8, where Dr. Kezar will be giving the keynote address:
Improving assessment and student success efforts by supporting VITAL faculty
Friday, November 8, 9:00am-10:35pm, Horticulture 2, UCSC Arboretum
VITAL faculty (Visiting, Instructors, Temporary, Adjunct, and Lecturers) teach the majority of introductory courses on college campuses but are given little support for this important role. Teaching and learning reform efforts and regular assessment typically lack involvement of VITAL faculty. Our campuses need to rethink the way they involve and support VITAL faculty so they have the opportunity to perform optimally, support student success and campus teaching and learning mission.
