Campus-Recognized Sorority and Fraternity Transparency Act - Annual Report

To: All UC Santa Cruz students

Dear UCSC Students,

As you begin this academic year, there will be many new opportunities to get involved on campus.  There are many different student organizations at UCSC, including Greek-Letter Organizations. To ensure that you make informed decisions about your involvement, we would like to provide all students with the following information regarding risk management and student organizations.

We encourage you to explore involvement opportunities with recognized Greek-Letter Organizations, please visit someca.ucsc.edu. SOMeCA works closely with the Office of Student Conduct & Conflict Education (OSCCE) regarding any concerns, complaints, or allegations of misconduct among our recognized groups.  All recognized Greek-Letter Organizations are required to provide SOMeCA information related to their membership and conduct.  This information is collected and compiled into a publicly accessible annual report. You can review the most recent report from SOMeCA on the current status of conduct-related matters within our Greek-Letter Organizations.

Dismissed Organizations

There are some students who act on behalf of student organizations that are not recognized by UCSC.  Student members of these groups may contact you to join their organization or simply invite you to attend their events. These organizations are not affiliated with the campus or governing councils in any way. Campus personnel do not advise these groups, do not provide training and resources, and their events are wholly independent of UCSC.

  • Delta Omega Chi Fraternity I Dismissed by UC Santa Cruz in 2003 as a result of risk management violations including the removal of a koi fish from the pond and its death.
  • Lambda Phi Epsilon Fraternity I Dismissed by UC Santa Cruz in 2018 as a result of risk management violations.
  • Pi Alpha Phi Fraternity I Dismissed by UC Santa Cruz in 2021 as a result of risk management violations including hazing.
  • Psi Chi Omega Fraternity I Dismissed by UC Santa Cruz in 2005 as a result of risk management violations including hazing.
  • Sigma Pi Fraternity I Dismissed by UC Santa Cruz in 2022 as a result of risk management violations and failure to comply with university sanctions.
  • Ski & Snowboard Club I Dismissed by UC Santa Cruz as a result of risk management violations.
  • Theta Chi Fraternity I Dismissed by UC Santa Cruz in 2019 as a result of risk management violations and failure to comply with University sanctions including hazing.

These organizations have had their recognition revoked by the institution by UCSC for various reasons.  Dismissed organizations are prohibited from sponsorship and/or co-sponsorship of any on-campus activities. Misrepresenting an organization as a Registered Student Organization, or in any way affiliated with UCSC, violates the Code of Student Conduct and may subject individual students to Student Conduct actions.  We advise you to refer to this website for the current list of unrecognized student organizations or contact SOMeCA with any questions.

You can find out more information about our recognized student organizations, hazing prevention, and many other ways to get involved on campus by contacting SOMeCA at soar@ucsc.edu.
