Search begins for Chief Campus Counsel

UC Santa Cruz has launched the first phase of a national search for Chief Campus Counsel, with stakeholder meetings held last week. This is a key campus leadership position, providing the campus with advice on a broad range of legal, regulatory and governance issues.

Vice Chancellor for University Relations Mark Delos Reyes Davis will chair the search committee. Campus officials have retained the executive search firm Caldwell Partners to assist in this recruitment.

The search officially opens Dec. 1, at which time information on how to apply will be made available to the campus community. Applications and nominations will be accepted through Jan. 20, or until the position is filled. During final interviews, each candidate will engage with campus constituents through an online Q&A session. Dates and times will be listed on the Chief Campus Counsel recruitment webpage as soon as they are scheduled. Information about final candidates will be announced one week before their interview.

If you have specific questions about the search not addressed on the recruitment site, please email Lauren Morgan, our Senior Leader Human Resources Manager, at llmorgan@ucsc.edu.

Current Chief Campus Counsel Lorena Peñaloza has accepted an offer for the same position at UC Riverside. She has partnered with many senior leaders and others across campus to inform and help guide many important decisions. Peñaloza will continue serving our campus through the end of the calendar year. An interim counsel will be appointed until the new Chief Campus Counsel is in place.
