On-campus candidate forum to focus on affordable housing

Candidates running for city and county offices will participate in an on-campus forum focused on affordable housing in Santa Cruz.

The forum will be 4–7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18 in the Red Room at Rachel Carson College and streamed live on Zoom

Attendees will:

  • learn where the candidates for city and county offices stand on housing issues
  • find out how to vote in local elections
  • meet others who are seeking solutions to the affordability crisis

The schedule is as follows:

  • 4 p.m.: Tabling, information gathering, and voter registration
  • 4:30 p.m: Welcome and launch of the Grad Cost of Attendance and Living Calculator
  • 4:40–5:15 p.m.: County Supervisor candidates: Justin Cummings and Shebreh Kalantari Johnson
  • 5:20–5:55 p.m.: Mayoral candidates: Fred Keeley and Joy Schedledecker
  • 6–6:40 p.m.: City Council District 4 candidates: Gregory Hyver, Hector Marin, and Scott Newsome
  • 6:45–7:15 p.m.: Council District 6 candidates: Renee Golder and Sean Maxwell 7:15–7:45 p.m.: Q and A

The forum is being sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs & Success, the Graduate Division, the Sociology Department, the Graduate Student Association, the Student Union Assembly, the Student Housing Coalition, Housing Santa Cruz County, Monterey Bay Economic Partnership, and UCSC Dems.
