Launching search for Associate Vice Chancellor for Equity and Equal Protection

To: UCSC Community

From: Cynthia Larive, Chancellor

I am pleased to announce the kickoff of a national recruitment for our Associate Vice Chancellor for Equity and Equal Protection. This is a key campus leadership position, providing oversight and coordination of our Title IX, Title VI, EEO/AA and ADA compliance programs, and leading the primary campus investigative unit for a range of compliance issues. The position manages highly confidential and sensitive issues, and develops solutions to a wide range of issues in these areas. The position will report directly to me and oversee our Office of Equity and Equal Protection.

Chief Campus Counsel Lorena Peñaloza will chair the search committee. We have retained the executive search firm Spelman Johnson to assist us in this recruitment. Applications will be accepted through July 6. During final interviews, likely in mid- to late August, candidates will meet with campus constituents. Dates and times will be listed on the Associate Vice Chancellor for Equity and Equal Protection recruitment webpage as soon as they are scheduled. Names of final candidates will be announced one week before their interview. We hope to have the new Associate Vice Chancellor in place during the fall quarter.

More information on the search and how to apply can be found on the recruitment webpage. If you have specific questions not addressed on the site, please email Lauren Morgan, our Senior Leader Human Resources Manager, at llmorgan@ucsc.edu.

I am grateful to Associate Chancellor Anna Finn, who is serving as interim Associate Vice Chancellor for EEP through the successful recruitment of our next leader. Isabel Dees, our inaugural Associate Vice Chancellor for EEP, transitioned in late March to serve as deputy Title IX director at the UC Office of the President.

The Associate Vice Chancellor for Equity and Equal Protection is a crucial position on our campus. I look forward to your participation and input in this important search.
