Registration open for Summer Edge

Registration is open for newly admitted students to get an early start at UC Santa Cruz. All incoming slugs are invited to join Summer Edge where students take Session 2 courses before their first fall to fulfill prerequisites or major requirements and build connections with faculty and support resources. They also receive an exclusive 25% discount on per-credit summer tuition.

Starting early can open up time for an internship, research, study abroad, or even graduating early. Financial Aid grants are available for eligible students taking a minimum of seven credits. There are additional savings for out-of-state students because they pay the same tuition rate as California residents over the summer. Last year, almost 600 Edge students completed 4,700 credits online, said Summer Session Director Monica Parikh.

In addition to the academic benefits, Edge students can move to campus this July to live in a residence hall with other newly admitted students. “We’re so excited to again offer an on campus experience,” Parikh said. “Students not only get an edge on degree requirements and have a lot of fun. Summer is the perfect time to explore UCSC’s unique location, culture, and community.”

Throughout the program, students receive support through workshops and individual guidance from campuswide staff and Peer Mentors dedicated to their needs. There are also lots of social events where they can make friends before fall!

“This summer session was my first set of classes at UCSC and they were an amazing experience. I was eager to get started with college and summer session was the perfect bridge between high school and college.” - Asher Chelder (2021 First Year Edge)

Registration is open through June 15. Learn more at https://summer.ucsc.edu/summer-edge.
