Sarah Latham, our longtime Vice Chancellor for Business and Administrative Services, has been appointed the new Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration at Brown University. She will continue working at UC Santa Cruz through the end of fall quarter, starting at Brown on Jan. 1, 2022.
I deeply appreciate Sarah’s willingness to continue serving our campus as we resume more in-person activities. For nearly a decade, she has provided invaluable leadership to our campus. In addition to helping lead UCSC through emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2020 wildfires, Latham has effectively managed the largest division on campus, which includes everything from Staff Human Resources to Colleges, Housing, and Educational Services.
Partnering with colleagues within the division, across campus, and across the UC system, her accomplishments are many. The Division of Business and Administrative Services during her tenure developed a culture of stewardship, simplification and process optimization, which was advanced through Sarah’s creation of the BAS Simplification and Innovation STAR award program. The division has recognized hundreds of staff members who have developed ways to save the campus money and time, and to enhance service. Sarah and her team have helped launch new programs that provide support for faculty, staff, and students with families, including the new back-up child care program.
Sarah has also been an active member in our community, helping advance our campus connections with city and county leaders, serving for two years as co-chair of the annual Second Harvest Food Bank Holiday Food Drive and as president of the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce.
Clearly, Brown recognizes Sarah’s vision, leadership, and extensive accomplishments at UC Santa Cruz. As the senior member of Brown’s executive team responsible for most non-academic operations, she will lead all administrative, business and financial operations.
I will share interim plans for divisional leadership later this quarter. In the meantime, please join me in thanking Sarah for her service to UC Santa Cruz, and congratulating her as she begins this new chapter in her career.
