Evacuation Warning

To: UC Santa Cruz Community

From: Nader Oweis, Chief of Police

This is not an evacuation order, but rather a warning to be prepared to evacuate.

An evacuation center for UC Santa Cruz students and employees living on campus is established at the Coconut Grove at the Boardwalks (use entrance B), 400 Beach Street, Santa Cruz. Parking is in the lot adjacent to the Coconut Grove.

Evacuation centers for the broader Santa Cruz community are open at Santa Cruz County Fairground, 2601 E. Lake Avenue in Watsonville, and Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, 307 Church Street, Santa Cruz.

To reach the evacuation center at the Boardwalk, individuals may drive, walk, bicycle, or use a bus, if available. Campus transit shuttles or Metro route 19 will be available for those on campus to get to the Boardwalk. Please go to the nearest loop transit stop to board a shuttle or bus.

If an evacuation order is issued, traffic may be congested. Campus community members who do not need to go to the Boardwalk should leave Santa Cruz on Highway 1 south.

Only use 911 for true emergencies.

Notes

An evacuation warning is issued when the threat is plausible for fire activity to increase and your residence may be in the affected area.

An evacuation order is issued when the area is determined to be an immediate threat to life and property.
