Systemwide review of revised policy on seismic safety

The University of California Office of the President invites comments on the proposed revisions of UC Seismic Safety Policy. The revisions include the following substantive changes:

  • Reorganization and clarification of text.
  • Updates to definitions.
  • Provisions are now applicable to buildings outside of California.
  • Implementation procedures are moved from the policy to the UC Facilities Manual. The UC Facilities Manual is a repository for information and procedures related to UC Capital Programs practices. Information may be found at https://www.ucop.edu/construction-services/facilities-manual.
  • Updated criteria requiring peer review.
  • Updated standards for leased facilities.
  • Technical seismic engineering standards are updated to reflect current California Building Code and industry standards, and where applicable, specification of technical seismic engineering standards have been moved from the policy to the UC Facilities Manual.
  • Policy requirements are clarified, and sections of the Policy Text are re-organized into a more logical sequence for clarity.
