Be ready to vote in March 3 primary election

To: UC Santa Cruz Community

From: Public Affairs

Tuesday, March 3 is California’s Primary Election. There are several important matters on the ballot, including primary elections for federal, state and local offices in addition to several local and state initiatives. Voting is a citizen's fundamental right, and UC Santa Cruz urges you to let your voice be heard.

To make it as easy as possible for you to cast your ballot, six campus polling stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on March 3, 2020.  All will accept mail-in ballots. In addition, a same-day voting location will be set up at the Bay Tree Bookstore beginning Saturday, February 29 through Tuesday, March 3, 2020, please see times here.

Not registered to vote or want to re-register?

Voters who miss the deadline to register to vote, which is February 18, may register or re-register up to and including on election day. There will be several places throughout Santa Cruz County, including the Bay Tree Bookstore, where voters can cast a ballot.  Here is a list of locations, dates, and times throughout Santa Cruz County hosting same-day voting sites.

Registered to vote back home?

If you are a student and are registered to vote in your home county and would like to vote in that county, make sure to request an absentee ballot.

If you have a mail ballot and are registered in Santa Cruz County, you should mail it before Saturday, February 29; hand it in at any polling place on Election Day; or place it in the designated ballot “drop box” in Quarry Plaza before 8 p.m. on March 3.

If you’re unsure about your voter registration status, you can check your polling location and voting information here. If for any reason you are not listed on your polling location's registered voters list and you are sure you registered ask for a conditional ballot so that your vote can still be counted.

You can also find more information about off-campus polling locations online

If you need information on the candidates and propositions on the ballot, please review the Santa Cruz County Voter Information.
