Elsevier Access Suspended
The University of California has been out of contract with Elsevier since January, but until now the publisher continued to allow access to 2019 articles via ScienceDirect. As of today (July 10, 2019) UC’s direct access to new Elsevier articles has been discontinued.

Volunteers sought for United Way’s Stuff the Bus campaign
The United Way is seeking volunteers to help with its annual Stuff the Bus campaign, which distributes new backpacks and school supplies to ensure students start school ready to learn with the tools they need to succeed.

UC Santa Cruz founding faculty member Jasper Rose dies at age 89
Jasper Rose, a founding faculty member of the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a professor emeritus of art and history, died on June 12, 2019, in Bath, England, where he had lived in recent years. He was 89.

On Thursday June 27, 2019 Primo’s 40-year-old heart performed its last beat. For 25 years, the rhythmic pulse of his heart was central to our cetacean biology program at the Long Marine Lab campus of UC Santa Cruz.
