Appointment to the position of Assoc. Vice Chancellor, Financial Affairs and Campus Controller

To: UC Santa Cruz Community

From: Sarah C. Latham, Vice Chancellor Business and Administrative Services

It gives me great pleasure to announce the appointment of Biju Kamaleswaran to the position of Associate Vice Chancellor, Financial Affairs and Campus Controller.  In this position, Biju will develop, interpret and implement financial concepts for financial planning, resource planning and control of organizational budget, analysis and preparation of financial plans including annual resource allocations, future requirements and operating forecasts. The AVC FA/CC directs the operations of the Enterprise Financial Systems, Extramural Funds, FAST/Accounts Payable, Financial Accounting and Reporting, Payroll, Procurement and Supply Chain Services, and Student Business Services. The AVC FA/CC also leads the development of unit strategic goals and objectives to achieve accountability and stewardship of university resources in a manner consistent with systemwide objectives and initiatives.

Biju will join our campus on May 20, 2019, giving him the opportunity to interface with and benefit from the experience of our colleague and friend, Kirk Lew, our current and soon-to-be-retiring AVC FA/CC. Kirk has admirably served the UCSC campus for many years, leading it through multiple initiatives, system implementations and projects. Please join me thanking Kirk for his excellent service to our campus as we welcome our new colleague, Biju Kamaleswaran, to the UCSC Campus community.

Biju comes to us from Arizona where he has served as the Deputy Director of Operations and CFO for the Arizona State Lottery. There, he led an impressive financial and operational transformation resulting in significant increases in revenue while improving financial analysis, adherence to tax regulations, forecasting and administering large budgets, improving internal processes while delivering high-quality service to a diverse client base. Biju also has excellent familiarity with IT and, during his time with the Arizona Lottery, developed their IT Strategic Plan and corresponding Digital Transformation Decision Package. Prior to his work with the Arizona Lottery, Biju worked for several years as Director Fiscal Budget/Deputy Chief Financial Officer for the Arizona Attorney General’s Office. Previously, on the east coast, Biju worked for Hewitt Associates as Systems Project Manager and Unit Manager, managing overall setup and testing efforts for its Fortune 500 clients. Biju holds a BS in Business Administration from Widener University, and a MS, Finance, from Temple University. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner.

I would like to thank the search committee for their excellent work.
