Campus review of newly proposed research policies

To: UC Santa Cruz Community

From: Scott Brandt, Vice Chancellor for Research and Mohamed Abousalem, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research Industry Alliances & Technology Commercialization (IATC)

The Office of Research is pleased to invite comments on the following newly proposed policies:

Led by AVC Abousalem, these policies were developed in consultation with the Deans of Engineering and Physical & Biological Sciences and Associate Deans for Research, the Academic Senate, Campus Counsel, Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, as well as participation from Audit & Management Advisory Services, Campus Controller’s Office, and Risk & Safety Services.

The policies establish clear and uniform allocation of income derived from intellectual property related to institutional work at UC Santa Cruz and support the IATC mission to build a vibrant, entrepreneurial culture to accelerate the adoption of inventions, cultivate sustainable strategic partnerships, and enable our campus to be an innovation powerhouse delivering social and economic benefits to our local and global communities.

Please submit comments to the Policy Coordination Office via email to pco@ucsc.edu by close of business Friday, May 10, 2019.

If no substantial comments are received, this policy will be forwarded to the Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor on or the following business day for final approval. The policies will be effective as of the final signature date and published on the Administrative Policy website at https://policy.ucsc.edu/index.html.
