Submit comments on proposed changes to Title IX rules by Dec. 21

The U.S. Department of Education recently released proposed Title IX rules primarily addressing how schools must respond to sexual harassment, including sexual assault.

The draft rules are open for public comment until January 28, 2019 (60 calendar days from their publication in the Federal Register). The rules address a topic of great significance to the UC community, and it is critical that the Office of the President provide comments.

To ensure those comments are informed by the views of the UC community, the system is asking for feedback from the campus community.

Due to the short comment period and impending holidays, the systemwide office must receive this input by Dec. 21, 2018.

This will allow staff to fully consider the community’s contributions before finalizing OP’s comments.

The proposed Title IX rules, as published in the Federal Register, are available here. To facilitate this process, community members are encouraged to submit their input to the systemwide Title IX office directly via an online survey. The section numbers in the survey align with the section numbers in the proposed rules.

Please note that, in a separate process, the systemwide Title IX Office is also currently gathering feedback on proposed revisions to the Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment (SVSH) Policy, which is in formal review. Comments to the SVSH Policy are still due to the system office by December 17, 2018.
