Over the course of the last few weeks, nearly 3,400 students participated in an online housing demand study administered by Brailsford and Dunlavey, the firm which also conducted our 2014 demand study. We are eager to receive and delve into the findings.

As shared previously, Student Housing West will be developed across two on-campus sites. The Heller site, where Family Student Housing (FSH) is currently located, will serve as the location for upper-division undergraduate and graduate student housing. The Hagar site will be the new home for Family Student Housing and will also include the expanded child care facility, serving up to 140 children of our students, faculty, and staff.

In order to achieve our goal of bringing on new student housing as expeditiously as possible, development on the Hagar site will be the first to commence beginning this summer 2018, with an anticipated occupancy date of fall 2019. The draft EIR for this project will be released late March and will have a 45 day comment period. Family Student Housing tenants will remain in their current residences until the new units are ready, at which time work on the existing FSH site will commence in earnest.

Concurrent with the new FSH development on the Hagar site, the new child care facility will be developed simultaneously with the goal of also opening in fall 2019. Until that time, the existing Early Education Services program serving the children of our students will continue to remain in operation. In summer 2017, a multi-constituent workgroup consisting of students, faculty and staff proposed the child care program needs and desires for this new facility. Their report can be found online.
