In Memoriam: Patrick Barber

To: UC Santa Cruz Community

From: Interim Associate Vice Chancellor and Campus Architect Felix Ang

It is with deep sadness that we write to tell you of the death of our colleague and friend, Patrick Barber. Patrick passed away on September 1, 2017.

Patrick worked as a member of our campus inspection team as an associate construction inspector with the Office of Physical Planning and Construction (PP&C). He was also a licensed contractor. His family describes him as adventurous, using his construction talents in Australia and Germany where he worked with Warner Brothers. We all knew him as a very friendly person, quick to laugh and share a story. He was an excellent mentor to his less-experienced team members and has supported our Project Managers on multiple projects, the most recent being the Marine Mammal Pool at Long Marine Lab. He was generous with his time and his knowledge. His colleagues will miss him.

Pat grew up in Walnut Creek, California with four brothers. His passion was golfing. He had taken vacation time last week and was able to go golfing with all of his brothers. He is survived by his brothers, his mother plus 12 nieces and nephews.

Sad news can be difficult to process. We encourage anyone who wishes to speak with someone to call the Employee Assistance Program at (831) 459-4996.
