An outstanding close to the Campaign for UC Santa Cruz

Dear friends and colleagues,

It is a pleasure to share with you that the Campaign for UC Santa Cruz has come to a close—and on a sky-high note! Together we raised more than $335 million in support of our students, faculty, and programs. Congratulations to all who helped make this campaign such a striking success.

Back when we launched the campaign—the quiet phase in 2009 and the public phase in 2013—we were in uncharted territory. UC Santa Cruz had never attempted a comprehensive fundraising campaign. Now, in addition to exceeding our goal of $300 million, we have established a culture of philanthropy among our students and alumni, our faculty and staff, and our friends and supporters. This is crucial for future efforts.

Among the many impacts of the campaign:

  • adding 16 new faculty chairs
  • launching new coastal science and policy programs
  • expanding our ground-breaking genomics research
  • adding stunning archives that offer insight into California’s—and the nation’s—arts and cultural scenes
  • renovating our historic Hay Barn and Quarry Amphitheater
  • Naming Rachel Carson College, and providing an endowment to provide students with educational opportunities in ecology and environmental justice in perpetuity

In the coming months, we will be sharing these stories and many others, all detailing the impact of the campaign.

This fall we will take time during Founders Weekend to celebrate our donors and the good created by their philanthropy. The weekend will include a special convocation to recognize all of our chair holders.

While this campaign is ending, our push to increase philanthropic support for the campus is ongoing. Our great work here demands that our efforts continue.

Thank you all for your commitment, and again, congratulations!

George
