UC Santa Cruz has hired seasoned intercollegiate athletics director Greg Warzecka to lead its NCAA Division III program. He will serve on an interim basis until a permanent athletics director is hired.
Warzecka, who starts Monday (Aug. 14), served as the UC Davis athletics director for 16 years, successfully leading the program through its transition from Division II to Division I. He worked at American River College as dean of kinesiology and athletics from 2012–15.
“I believe Greg brings the perfect mix of subject matter expertise and leadership approach needed to successfully guide the Slug program at this critical time,” Vice Chancellor Sarah Latham said.
Warzecka served as athletics director for University of Redlands, a Division III program, before he joined UC Davis in 1995. He holds a BA in physical education from UC Berkeley and a master’s in athletic administration from CSU Hayward.
UC Santa Cruz has engaged Collegiate Sports Associates to lead the search for the permanent athletics director.
