Systemwide Review of Proposed Revisions to Presidential Policy on Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence

The University invites comments on the proposed revisions to the Presidential Policy on Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence.  This policy applies to all members of the UC community.

The proposed revisions are intended to update the policy in accordance with Final Regulations implementing the requirements of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) that was reauthorized by President Obama in 2013.  These Final Regulations were issued by the U.S. Department of Education on October 20, 2014 and become effective July 1, 2015.  Additionally, proposed revisions address outstanding issues and questions dating from the original policy review process in fall 2013, assure that the policy is consistent with the efforts of the President’s Task Force on Preventing and Responding to Sexual Violence and Sexual Assault, and improve clarity as requested by faculty, non-faculty academics, students, and staff.

The proposal is available on the UCOP Academic Personnel and Programs website, http://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/academic-personnel-policy/policies-under-review/shsv-policy.html

Comments on the proposed policy changes are due by May 8, 2015 and should be directed to Tracey Tsugawa, Title IX Officer, at ttsugawa@ucsc.edu.  A summary of campus comments will be provided to the Office of the President for consideration.
