UC Santa Cruz volunteer service day March 28 honors Cesar Chavez

The UC Santa Cruz community will be taking part in Cesar Chavez Volunteer Service Day, set for Saturday, March 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Homeless Garden Project Natural Bridges Farm.

All UC Santa Cruz alumni, students, staff, faculty, and the public are invited to participate. The volunteer service day is in collaboration with the Homeless Garden Project, the Santa Cruz Volunteer Center, and the Santa Cruz Charter for Compassion campaign. (Link to registration information.)

Volunteers will prepare planting beds for spring crops. Ines Marines, a longtime farm worker, mentored by United Farmworkers Union leader Cesar Chavez and recently honored as one of the “living legends” of the early UFW movement, is scheduled to speak. Lunch, beverages, and snacks will be provided.

The Homeless Garden Project Natural Bridges Farm is located on Shaffer Road at Delaware Avenue on the west side of Santa Cruz near Natural Bridges State Park.
