The Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is excited to announce the course schedule for the 2014-15 Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program. This free professional development opportunity is open to all staff and faculty. To complete the program, participants take seven core courses and two elective courses. Each course is 2-3 hours in length and taught by different internal and external instructors. The seven core courses address the following topics:

  •       Historical overview of power, privilege and oppression
  •       Diversity and inclusion at UCSC
  •       Race/ethnicity and national origin
  •       Disability
  •       LGBT issues
  •       Generational differences
  •       Diversity change agents

Elective courses cover topics such as religious diversity, socioeconomic class, and veterans in higher education. For more information regarding the courses and the program, please visit: http://diversity.ucsc.edu/training/certificate_courses.html.

Participants can take the individual courses even if they are not pursuing the certificate. Although the courses do not focus on pedagogy, they offer an overview of the topics and issues relevant to any classroom. Registration begins September 8, 2014 (class size is limited). Our courses for this academic year officially begin on October 9, 2014.

We encourage you to complete the program or take individual courses that are of interest to you. If you have any questions, please email: diversity@ucsc.edu.
