It is with profound sadness that I share news of the death of Barbara Bedford, a longtime friend and colleague of many on campus. Barbara, who was 66, died peacefully on December 9; she was surrounded by family.
Barbara started her career at UCSC in Staff Human Resources and retired in 2008 as director of the Career Center. In a 40-year career at UCSC, her accomplishments were many, including founding the Student Employment program and merging the Career Placement and Student Employment offices to form the Career Center. Throughout her career, Barbara was proactive in helping African-American staff find career opportunities on campus.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 21, at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 960 Brommer Street, Santa Cruz. It will begin at 1 p.m.
