UC SANTA CRUZ POLICE DEPARTMENT
COMMUNITY CRIME ALERT BULLETIN

UPDATE

On February 13, 2013, at 7:30PM, the City of Santa Cruz Police Department reported that two masked men committed an armed robbery at the Food Bin located at 1130 Mission Street, Santa Cruz.

Both suspects, who were wearing bandanas and hooded sweatshirts, ordered the customers to the ground. One of the customers, a woman, suffered minor injuries when she looked up to catch a glimpse of the assailants and the gunman kicked her in the face. She was treated at the scene and released.

• Suspect 1, who carried a shotgun, was described as a heavy-set Latino with a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, 5 feet 10 inches tall, in his early 20s.

• Suspect 2, who carried a knife, was described as a thin white male, possibly in his early 20s, about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt pulled over his head, and a red or dark colored bandana.

It is unknown how the suspects fled the area.

Given the suspects wore bandanas to conceal their identity, a possibility exists that the suspects were also involved in the February 11, 2013, bus stop attempted murder and robbery (see that bulletin).  However, please be cognizant that criminals commonly wear bandanas and further information is necessary to correlate the two incidents.

In addition, the City of Santa Cruz Police Department has released a sketch of the bus stop suspect (see sketch). This sketch was developed with the assistance of the victim. Anyone with information about the suspect in this crime is encouraged to contact the UC Santa Cruz or City of Santa Cruz Police Departments immediately.

Anyone with information about either of these crimes is encouraged to call the City of Santa Cruz Police Department Investigations Unit at 831-420-5820 or the UC Santa Cruz Police Department at 831-459-2231.

Reports may also be made ANONYMOUSLY to the UC Santa Cruz Police Department by calling 831-459-3TIP (459-3847) or online at http://police.ucsc.edu.
