UCSC police have cordoned off an area around the upper East Field parking lot while they investigate a suspicious object that was observed in the parking lot. At approximately 9:15 this morning, the Santa Cruz County "bomb squad" was called as a precaution; UCSC fire personnel are also on site.
Until further notice, please avoid that area of campus. Hagar Drive, from the entrance to the East Remote parking lot up to Steinhart Way near the bookstore, has been blocked to motorists. Pedestrians should also avoid that area.
As a precaution, OPERS staff have been evacuated from offices in that area, and activities at the OPERS complex have been suspended.
