Please join the Biological Sciences community in remembering a long-time UCSC former employee, Kay House, who passed away peacefully in Sacramento, CA, on January 20, 2012, after a long battle with liver disease and breast cancer.
Kay worked at UC Santa Cruz from 1978 to 2001 when she left to take a job at UC Davis. She retired in 2007. Colleagues at both campuses admired and respected her and often looked to her for advice and guidance. Shortly after arriving in Woodland, she became involved with cat rescue and adoptions, eventually serving on the governing board of Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary in Sacramento. She enjoyed racquetball, skiing, swimming, going to the beach or just being in the sun, gardening, traveling, Giants baseball, and a recent passion for birding. She was a loving mother and a kind and generous friend.
She is survived by her son, Andy Johnson, of Klamath Falls, Oregon. She is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. She will be dearly missed.
There will be two open houses to celebrate Kay's life. The first will be on February 25, 1:00 to 4:00, in Woodland (RSVP and for directions to lasky@sbcglobal.net); the second will be on February 26, 1:00 to 4:00, Scotts Valley (RSVP and for directions to Andy at egasj1@hotmail.com). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Kay's name to Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary (http://www.happytails.org/).
