UC Santa Cruz received a top prize at the Silcon Valley/San Jose Business Journal's annual Structures Awards ceremony, held last week at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose.
The campus finished first in the category of "Green Project — Public" for its sustainable design and construction efforts on the Cowell Student Health Center project. The four-year, $17 million project was designed to expand and seismically retrofit the 42-year-old health center, while making the building more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
Accepting the award at the September 20 evening event were Josephine Ortega and Wenbo Yuan, both of Physical Planning & Construction, and a representative of Hawley Peterson Snyder Architects.
The project has received multiple "green" awards since its completion a year ago. See earlier article about those awards, the project, and its sustainability features.
