Free poetry reading and music at UCSC's Alan Chadwick Garden June 25

Enjoy the beauty of early summer in the historic Alan Chadwick Garden at UC Santa Cruz with poetry and music from some of the region’s most talented artists.

On Saturday, June 25, from noon until 2 p.m., a bevy of award-winning poets will read from their work at “A Garden of Poetry and Music,” with music by guitarist Bruce Abrams and piper Jay Salter. The event is free and open to the public.

Featured poets this year are Beth Benjamin, Nancy Dahl, Michael Hannon, Stephen Meadows, Chris Olander, Lee Perron, Jay Salter, and Patrice Vecchione.

Also taking part is acclaimed virtuoso guitarist Bruce Abrams. His solo recording, The Truck Stops Here, Afro-Celtic Folk Guitar, has received wide acclaim for its innovative and transcendent blend of the ancient harp music of Ireland played on the guitar, and South African township jive.

The main entrance to the Alan Chadwick Garden is located on McLaughlin Drive across from Stevenson College, where free parking will be available in the Stevenson College parking lot. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the UCSC Farm & Garden, and the UCSC Center for Agroecology & Sustainable Food Systems.
