UC Santa Cruz is featured on the cover of this month’s issue of Talking Stick, the magazine of the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International (ACUHO-I). The editors selected a photo of UCSC’s Porter College Infill Apartments at twilight with students interacting on the neighborhood’s pedestrian street to accompany the cover article on housing assignment best practices.

The article examined the ways technologies, such as roommate matching software and social networking web sites like Facebook, are changing the housing assignment process-where “the goal is to produce a complementary and compatible match, not an identical one.”

Sue Matthews of Student Affairs was quoted regarding UCSC’s gender-neutral housing option, another enhancement to the living-learning community that serves to meet the needs of the diverse student population.
