Information on UCSC arson case

At approximately 5:40 a.m. today (August 2, 2008), UC Santa Cruz Police and Fire personnel responded to a report of a car fire outside a residence in the faculty housing area on campus.

The fire was extinguished within five minutes after fire personnel arrived. The case is under investigation as a possible arson.

This incident–in addition to an off-campus fire at a faculty residence–is being investigated by the FBI; federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF); Santa Cruz Police; UCSC Police; and the state Fire Marshal’s office.
