You may have noticed that UCSC has some spring visitors. Grounds Services manages a contract with a local rancher to bring cattle to campus at different times of the year. By grazing the meadows, the bovine munchers help manage campus grasslands, reduce fire hazard, and assist Grounds Services in increasing native species and improving the composition of the meadow. Plus, as shown here, they create a bucolic visual effect.
