The UC Santa Cruz campus and larger community gathered in the Quarry Amphitheater to usher in the era of John R. Lewis College with powerful speakers, poetry, song, and activism.

UC Santa Cruz students who want to build a future with better, more equitable health outcomes will have the option to declare one of two new global and community health majors, starting in fall 2022.
Associate Professor Nick Mitchell teaching Critical Race and Ethnic Studies: An Introduction in 2018. The class examines the concept of race, followed by an investigation of colorblindness, multiculturalism, and post-racialism.
During a time of global reckoning with racism, UCSC's new Department of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies casts a wide net, with courses that touch on a range of topics and issues—from poverty and public policy to ethnic studies in K–12 public education to the history of jazz in America to comparative settler colonial critique.

Alumna Jodi McGraw, an expert ecologist and conservationist, has not only worked to protect the environment, but has also ensured the growth of UCSC students and recent graduates looking for experience in restoration and conservation management fields.

 
Akirah Bradley-Armstrong is an accomplished leader who has demonstrated vision and dynamic leadership focused on supporting student belonging, engagement, health, wellness, and much more.

Akirah J. Bradley-Armstrong, our new Vice Chancellor for the Division of Student Affairs and Success, will be a powerful advocate for our students and a great addition to our campus community.

New York Times reporter Andrew Kramer (Cowell ’94, history)

A UC Santa Cruz alumnus—New York Times reporter Andrew Kramer—has been on the ground in Ukraine covering breaking news in the war.

Claire Pierangelo (Kresge College, History ’82) will serve as US Ambassador to Madagascar.

A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, alumna Claire Pierangelo was confirmed in March by the United States Senate as the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Madagascar and the Union of the Comoros.
