For longtime Santa Cruz resident, Francis Garcia, living in close proximity to UC Santa Cruz enhances his community and cultural experiences. Garcia relishes the time he spends at the Arboretum, enjoys attending concerts at the recital hall, pursues his passion for lifelong learning via lectures at Stevenson, and fondly recalls his past volunteer work with KZSC.
“I encourage all of us in the greater Santa Cruz area to take advantage of the amazing resources the university has to offer,” Garcia said. “Just spending time and enjoying the natural beauty of UCSC’s location is incredibly special.”
Garcia’s appreciation for the university is reflected in his generous philanthropy. A member of Chancellor’s Associates, a giving society that recognizes donors who give $2,500 or more each year, Garcia is happy to promote the many areas on campus that he enjoys. The Arboretum, in particular, holds a special place in his heart—his late partner, Ralph Soto, fell in love with the Arboretum and its many botanical treasures.
“I have greatly enjoyed the Arboretum and the organized community gatherings that happen there. Spending time under the trees, making connections, it’s a treasure,” Garcia says. “I am proud to support these wonderful resources that enhance where we live.”
