Google-funded research project applies computer science to aid bird conservation

Computer Science and Engineering Professor Luca de Alfaro and Natalia Ocampo-Peñuela, assistant professor of environmental studies, have received a $60,000 Google Research Scholar award for a new collaboration to use machine learning models to create continent-wide maps of bird habitat connectivity for conservation purposes.
