Power outage at main campus

9:19 p.m.—Power has been restored to all areas of the main campus, including Natural Sciences 2 Building, Interdisciplinary Sciences Building, and the Center for Adaptive Optics Building.

7:41 p.m.PG&E restored power to the main campus at about 5 p.m.. Staff from the Physical Plant then began bringing the campus online. Power has been restored to most of campus. However, crews are still working to restore power to the Natural Sciences 2 Building, Interdisciplinary Sciences Building, and the Center for Adaptive Optics Building. The campus will send a follow-up email once power is restored to the remaining buildings.

The power outage was caused by a tree that fell on a PG&E power line that supplies campus with power.

2:45 p.m.—Due to the extended length of the campus power outage, a number of IT services are impacted including CruzNet and eduroam wireless access, cellular telephone service, and campus VoIP telephones.

12:58 p.m.—Given the unknown duration of the power outage, employees whose workplace is without power may be released by their supervisors to leave the workplace. Employees who are scheduled to work during this time but cannot will be granted administrative leave with pay for their regular working hours.

Employees coming to campus to begin their shifts during this time should check the campus website for updates.

12:25 p.m.—PG&E has reported that a tree went down on the power line and expects repairs to complete between 6–8 p.m.

11:28 a.m.—PG&E estimates that it will take at least two hours to restore power.

11:16 a.m.—PG&E crews are responding to the downed power line. There is no estimated time for when power will be restored.

10:46 a.m.—UC Santa Cruz is experiencing a power outage at its main campus due to a break in PG&E service. Campus crews are working to re-start the cogeneration facility to provide power to Science Hill.

Power at the lower parts of campus, supplied by a different power line, has been restored.
