Car sharing as a sustainable transportation option

To: UCSC students

From: Larry Pageler, Transportation and Parking Services

UCSC Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) contracts with Zipcar to offer car sharing services to our campus as a sustainable transportation option for our affiliates. Car sharing allows students the option of still having access to a personal vehicle but without the impacts and costs associated with car ownership.

Zipcar is a membership-based car rental program providing self-service access to vehicles on campus and in Santa Cruz, 24/7. At UCSC, students are eligible to join Zipcar for affordable, convenient access to a car when needed for personal use. Reserve a car online by the hour or day – just pay as you go. Prices start at $7.50 per hour, which includes all vehicle fees, gas, insurance, mileage and reserved on-campus parking. Zipcars may park in any non-reserved parking space on campus without an additional UCSC parking permit. Join today for only $15 a year.

Zipcar is offering a free hour of driving credit ($8.50) to all members during the month of November. Those who start a new membership during November can use the credit within one month after signing up. Use the code UCSCFALL16.
