Registration opens for Sammy Slug Summer Camp

Camper on a climbing wall

Registration is open for Sammy Slug Summer Camp, a recreational summer program for boys and girls entering 1st through 6th grades.

The program, offered through the UC Santa Cruz Office of Physical Education, Recreation and Sports, goes in one-week sessions from June 27 to Aug. 19. Each day starts at 9 a.m., with half-day campers at 1 p.m. and full-day campers staying until 5 p.m.

The camp is open to the local community. Registration can be done online.

The camp boasts a variety of activities for campers with varied interests: sports, arts, crafts, singing, dancing, hiking, and more. Activities rotate throughout the morning of each week to keep our campers engaged and doing something different every day.

Parents with children in the camp pay an average of $6.87 per hour for a full day, weekly session. The camp is great for families with multiple children, as there is a 20 percent discount for families who enroll more than one child/family member per weekly session.

The focus is on fun, with staff trained on age-appropriate activities, motivational strategies, and over-the-top enthusiasm.
